Wanted Index, a good measure of blue collar
demand for workers, declined in February
to 71, the lowest levels since September
1993.

Economy.Com reported that its Online Help
Wanted Index, a good measure of white collar
demand for workers, dropped in March to
a 4-week moving average of 112.5. Cut back
in Internet related companies was identified

lost 0.34% despite announcing the release
of its Xbox game console in Autumn with
11 Sega titles. Microsoft intends
to be in a head on competition with Sony
and its Playstation2.
- Radica
Games gained 35% after announcing that it
has a licensing agreement to make accessories
for Microsoft's Xbox game console.
- American
Express lost 0.13% despite an article in
Business Week magazine reported that Citigroup
is interested in acquiring the credit card
giant. Citigroup lost 0.89%.

Petroleum Institute (API) reported that
US Crude Oil inventories rose 11.2 million
barrels and 8.9 million barrels respectively.
Reuters Survey of analysts expected an increase
of only 1.2 million Barrels. API's figures
for last week were also revised upward by
an additional 900,000 barrels. For Distillates,
the EIA and the API saw decreases of 2.8
million barrels and 447,000 barrels respectively.

The markets closed higher as technology stocks
rebounded. Federal Reserve chair Alan Greenspan's
speech to the National Association of Business
Economists (NABE) gave no hints on Fed intentions.
The NASDAQ, which rallied since 10 AM, had a
heavy trading volume of over 1.953 billion shares,
while the NYSE had a volume of over 1.319 billion
shares traded. Gainers included: Alza Corp,

The Conference Board reported that US Consumer
Confidence rose sharply in March to 117.0
- the highest level since December of last
year. All the indices, including the 6-month
outlook indices, showed positive results.

US Durable Goods Orders dropped a mere 0.2%
in February, a lesser drop than economists
expected. Industrial Machinery and Steel
orders accounted for most of the drop, while
Electronics components and electrical equipment

Point Software gained 6.54% after announcing
the upgrade of its flagship systems security
software.
- Alza
Corp gained after Johnson & Johnson
announced that it is acquiring the smaller
drug maker for $10.2 billion in stock.
- Quaker
Oats and Pepsico gained after the European
Commission (EC) approved their merger.

gained 5.10% after JP Morgan Chase &
Co. initiated coverage of it with a "long
term buy" recommendation.
- Ericsson
gained 14.97% after announcing that it sold
its 1.9% stake in Juniper Networks for $538
million - a much needed cash infusion for
the strapped telecommunications company.
- Handheld
smart device makers like Immersion, Handspring,
Palm, etc. gained after a Bear Stearns report
stated that a surge in smart handheld devices
in the next 5 years will rival PC and cellular
phone sales.
- Microsoft
gained 3.90% on news that it has partnered
with the UK Government to bring all government
related payment transactions online by year
2005.
- Vitesse
Semiconductor lost 14.36% after CS First
Boston, UBS Paine Webber, and Dain Rauscher
Wessels downgraded it.
- Leslie
Fay rose 51% after Three Cities Funds made
a $5 a share offer for the company.
- Rare
Hospital gained 23.31% on a Dain Rauscher
Wessels upgrade.
- Handspring
announced that it has signed a reseller
agreement with Ingram Micro. Handspring
gained 26.34%.
- Nokia
gained 0.96% after announcing that its mobile
phones now have software that will enable
banking and other financial transactions.
- AFTER
CLOSE: Palm Computing, which gained 7.36%
in regular trading, is losing in after hours
after reporting fiscal Q3 earnings of 2
cents a share, 1 cent a share better than
First Call estimates. Palm however, warned
that it will loss 8 cents a share in fiscal
Q4, instead of the First Call estimated
income of 3 cents a share.
- AFTER
CLOSE: Nortel Networks is extending its
losses in after hours after announcing that
its earnings will be at least 2 times lower
than estimates, and the company now plans
to cut 15,000 jobs, or 16% of its 94,500
global workforce.
- AFTER
CLOSE: Biogen is losing in after hours after
announcing that its fiscal Q1 earnings will
be between 45 cents a share to 46 cents
a share. First Call was expecting 47 cents
a share.
- AFTER
CLOSE: PSI Technologies Holdings is gaining
in after hours after warning that its fiscal
Q1 revenue will fall short. The company
however, made known that it is adjusting
its operations and costs so as to lower
its business activities.
